My name is Brandon Brown, and I am honored to run for the CAPS-UAW Bylaws and Constitution Committee on the Scientists for a Democratic Union (SDU) slate.
As a regulatory toxicologist and risk assessor for the State of California, my daily work revolves around diving deep into complex guidelines, evaluating risks, and ensuring strict compliance. I hold a PhD in pharmacology and toxicology, a background that has ingrained in me a meticulous, analytical, and detail-oriented approach. These exact skills are essential for evaluating, drafting, and refining our union’s governing documents.
Beyond my scientific role, I am deeply committed to our union's strength and solidarity. Serving as a Local Steward for CAPS-UAW has given me a frontline perspective on the workplace challenges our members face and the vital importance of having clear, fair, and enforceable rules. I have actively engaged in union strategy, candidate interviews, and legislative analysis to protect state workers’ rights. I want to bring that same proactive dedication to this committee.
My motivation for running is simple: our constitution and bylaws are the foundation of our union's democracy and operational strength. As we continue to build our power as CAPS-UAW, we need governing documents that are transparent, equitable, and capable of truly empowering our membership. I am committed to ensuring our bylaws protect every scientist's voice and provide a rock-solid framework for our collective bargaining efforts.
I would be honored to earn your vote and work on behalf of all our members to strengthen the structural integrity of our union.
