My name is Cory Copeland. I am Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor and your Supervisor-at-Large on our CAPS-UAW Executive Board. I am running on the Scientists for a Democratic Union (SDU) slate and would be honored to represent members like you at the UAW constitutional convention. I have been fighting alongside members like you for more than 8 years to beat RTO, get raises, protect our rights, and grow our movement. I believe that UAW should be leaders in the labor movement and if I am given the privilege of representing you at the convention, then I will fight to ensure we do.
In my 9 years of organizing with members like you I have had many roles. I was an original member of the Member Action Committee where I helped found the Contract Action Team (CAT). I did the nitty-gritty of organizing in the most ambitious contract fight in our history. I helped create petitions, rallies, media coverage, and marches. I haven’t only worked on campaigns, I have experience representing members in grievances, hearings, and meet-and-confers to protect our rights.
My priority is CAPS-UAW, but I believe all workers benefit from a healthy labor movement. So beyond my work with CAPS-UAW, I have done actions with academic workers at UAW 4811, baristas at Starbucks Workers United, teachers with CTA, and hotel workers with Unite Here. I have recruited workers to new organizing campaigns at Amazon warehouses, Siemens factories, and other workplaces in the Sacramento area. I believe that we are a part of a movement whose strength is our solidarity. At the constitutional convention I will work to ensure CAPS-UAW, the UAW International, and the labor movement continue to grow and fight in solidarity for workers.
