Hi! My name is Amber Fultz (she/her/hers) and I am running for one of the D3 Head Steward positions. I am a Research Scientist at DHCS and have had that role for a little more than one year. I joined CAPS-UAW when I first started with the state because I am a strong believer in the effectiveness of union organizing. 

Although I am new to state service, I have been an active member of various unions for the past eight years. In graduate school, I served as a union steward for the local chapter of the Coalition of Graduate Employees (CGE). During that time, I organized my department to attend bargaining sessions and supported members and non-members alike in resolving inconsistencies between departmental policy and the MOU. Since last year, I joined the CAPS Member Support Team for District 3 to answer member questions and provide support to members navigating unique circumstances related to salary adjustments, workplace accommodations, and filing grievances. 

My overarching goal as a head steward would be to provide timely, effective support to members. If elected, it would be important to me that members a) have the information required to quickly contact local stewards for support and b) are confident that they will receive swift communication in return. Practically, this includes scheduling timely new-employee orientations to CAPS-UAW and taking the personal responsibility to dispense relevant information to membership through solidarity breaks, one-on-one discussions, and community building.
