Renee Roberts for District 3 Head Steward

My name is Renee Roberts, and I am honored to be a candidate for the D3 Head Steward position. I have been a state employee since 2006 and work at the Department of Toxic Substances Control as a Senior Environmental Scientist. I currently provide assistance to the regulated community regarding management of hazardous waste in California as well as  legislative and regulatory interpretation regarding hazardous waste.

I have always been passionate about CAPS and its mission to represent scientists in state employment. I have been a CAPS (and now CAPS-UAW) member since becoming a state employee and in this past few years, I have been actively involved in our strike and other demonstrations to support our wage issues, and have increasingly become more and more involved with CAPS-UAW union activities, including being a part of the RTO grievance and meet & confer for CalEPA, and recent attendance at the UAW Region 6 Summer School, both which deepened my understanding and commitment of union grievances and other processes. I am also a paramedic and business owner. I understand employment laws and regulations which will help me to help other stewards and you with employment related issues and concerns you may have. I have assisted fellow scientists over the years with concerns regarding pay, insurance, and grievances in the past and remain committed to providing CAPS-UAW members assistance with all aspects of their union and employment. I humbly request that I be allowed to be your D3 Head Steward.
