Hi my name is Chun-Sheng Wang and I’m running for CAPS-UAW District 7 head steward representing supervisors. I’ve been a member since 2023, the year of the first ever state worker strike. I’ve worked at Caltrans for over 17 years in Caltrans District 8, 4, and 11 and currently serve as a supervisor in the division of Environmental where I was promoted to supervisor in 2024.
I’ve been involved as an organizer as the contract action team (CAT) Team 10 coordinator and helped double the number of CATS at each Caltrans office to build the foundation of our organizing structure for that agency. I helped outreach to countless state scientists across all geographic areas to hear and listen to their concerns at their workplace and their opinions on our hard-fought contract. I observed bargaining with CalHR several time to see and hear first hand the state unreasonably denying our raises in a year that wasn't a budget shortfall.
I spearheaded the assembly of the solidarity group photo collage which evolved into our photo petition that demonstrated our union’s power. I’ve attended organizing for power workshops and attended UAW Region 6 summer school.
As a supervisor, I’ve participated in the catalyst committee and the by-laws committee to help transform our union into an organizing model. I help resolve member issues across the state as a volunteer with the supervisor support committee as well as run my own weekly supervisor solidarity break. I co-lead the the delivery of the first cross union state agency specific petition (that had over 1000 signatures) to our Director's office demanding more flexibility with how return to office was being implemented.
I’m running because I want to improve our working conditions and I understand it takes a collective effort with supervisors to make that happen alongside rank-and-file. My passion is to help those who are in need and to connect them with others to develop winning solutions. My focus will be to resolve pay issues, become a politically active union, and to advocate for flexibility in the implementation of return to office. Vote for me and let’s get to organizing!
